A painting by Vincent van Gogh was stolen in an overnight raid from the Singer Laren Museum in Amsterdam.&nbspThe incident took place during early hours of Monday morning after the thieves broke in, smashing the front glass door of the museum. The artwork was a part of the exhibition Mirror of the Soul, showcasing 70 Dutch paintings and drawings from the 19th century. However, no other art from the museum seems to be missing at the moment.

The painting was stolen on the day Van Gogh was born 167 years ago.

The painting had been a loan from the Groninger Museum who said in a statement, &lsquoThe 1884 work, oil on paper on panel (marouflage), is the only painting by Van Gogh in the Groninger Museum&rsquos collection.&rsquo

It is one of the series of work by Van Gogh between 1883-84 while in Nuenen with his parents. The oil on paper painting shows a person in a garden with trees in the surrounding and ruins of a church tower in the background.

The value of the artwork is currently unknown.
