On December 14, train services between Lahore and the Wagah border resumed after 22 years!

The train named ‘Rail Car’ can carry 181 passengers and will complete three trips in a day. This shuttle will allow people to travel conveniently to witness the flag hoisting and lowering ceremony at the Wagah border, as well as Jallo Park in Lahore. As for the flag hoisting ceremony, the Indian Border force and Pakistan Rangers will be responsible for presiding over security concerns. The fare for the journey has been priced at PKR 30. Wagah, Jallo and Lahore stations will be connected by the shuttle.

The service was inaugurated by Pakistan Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid. According to news reports, Railway Chief Operating Superintendent Aamir Baloch has mentioned that should enough people demand a trip, new coaches will be added and renovated for the same. He also added that the service can be extended to Kot Lakhpat, Shahdara Railway Station and Kot Radha Krishnan Railway Station.

The services were operational since partition till 1997, when the same were suspended due to operational and security reasons. People on the border, as well as businessmen from Lahore were frequent travellers on the train. They were subjected to economic and safety travel problems once the services were shut down. The resumption of the train will ensure convenient and safe travel for the citizens.
