The minute someone says Gujarat, the only picture that pops in one’s mind is a plateful of steaming hot khaman dhokla or more typically – a woman clad in traditional attire who’s on the verge of breaking into a garba routine. Isn’t it high time we moved beyond such stereotypes? Well, the state has something in store that might help you associate Gujarat with something really fascinating.

Gujarat’s Raiyoli village is now home to India’s largest dinosaur museum and fossil park. This village situated in the Balasinor town of Mahisagar district is known to be the third largest dinosaur fossil site in the world and the second largest dinosaur hatchery where about 10,000 dinosaur eggs have been found. The fossil park contains life size statues of these massive creatures and further excavations have revealed traces of the existence of thick – legged, heavy – bodied creatures called Rajasaurus Narmandensis .The site is equipped with modern technology like 3D projection, virtual reality, interactive kiosks and life size dinosaur replicas. The museum has around 10 galleries with detailed displays of dinosaurs in India and fossil exhibitions. The museum houses as many as 40 sculptures that throw light on the size, shape, habits and habitat of these creatures. A step into this world will surely transport you to 65 million years back.
