This new monument in Kolkata is pretty hard to miss, all you need to do is look up. Biswa Bangla Gate, or Kolkata Gate as it is popularly called, is made with two arches that crisscross each other at 55 metres, straddling a road in New Town. A 25-metre-tall, circular tunnel hands on the arches and has been turned into a viewing gallery and a full-fledged restaurant.

The glass tunnel offers panoramic views of the city while the interiors are covered in colourful art and plush seating. Entry to the gallery begins at 12 noon, with 45-minute slots till 5pm in the evening. As the sun sets, the gallery turns into a restaurant that seats up to seventy-two people.
