In big travel news this week, you can now zoom your way from Hong Kong to China in just 14 minutes flat. A new bullet train launched on September 22, 2018 connects Hong Kong with mainland China over 26 km. This is a new high speed rail link that has been in plan and construction for over 8 years and has finally been put into action with a budget of over HK$86.4 billion (approx $ 10 billion).
The quickest point to reach China from Hong Kong is Shenzen where the journey is just 14 minutes. In order to reach the capital city of the province in Guangdang, Guangzhou, it would take about 30 minutes’ travel time. Passengers will have to clear immigrations at the West Kowloon terminus. After crossing the border, they can travel further on China’s internal high speed network that connects major cities of the country. This includes its capital Beijing, Shanghai and 44 other destinations.
The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Railway has been made with an aim to service close to 80,000 citizens between both hubs of Asia, and began operations, albeit with a few glitches last Saturday.
