OT: Which is your favourite hotel in the world?
Jennifer Lopez:I love the Waldorf Astoria (from $249, waldorfnewyork.com) in Manhattan. It is my own oasis in a bustling desert.
OT:What makes it special to you?
Jennifer Lopez:This is the definition of luxury for me! I love my luxuries, and yes, I am a diva and rather proud of it.
OT:What about more practical considerations — is it a convenient address for tourists?
Jennifer Lopez:This place is not cramped, occupying a whole block on Park Avenue. Aside from its regal splendour, the fact that it is walking distance from Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, St Patrick’s Cathedral, and the world-famous galleries and shopping of Fifth Avenue makes it very convenient.
OT:Tell us more about the luxury treatment.
Jennifer Lopez:It is the small details that the hotel spoils you with. The staff at Waldorf Astoria always has my room smelling of my favourite Jo Malone Grapefruit & Lime Blossom candles. They will always keep generous amounts of plain M&M’s stocked for me. Not only that, if I arrive during the day, someone will welcome me with a bunch of white lilies and if I check in in the evening, it will be red and white roses. They pamper me a lot!
OT:Besides M&M’s, what do you like to eat there?
Jennifer Lopez:The food is as American as it gets — only with chutzpah! Whether you eat at the stylish Peacock Alley or the Bull & Bear Prime Steakhouse, you are in culinary heaven! But my choice is Oscar’s. Named after legendary maitre d’ Oscar Tschirky — the man credited with creating the Waldorf Salad and Eggs Benedict — the Oscar’s menu features Waldorf favourites in sophisticated art deco surroundings. My favourite dish when I am here is the signature Waldorf thick-cut applewood smoked bacon.
