The 25th of January is a significant day for India, as it is marked as National Tourism Day, as designated by the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of India (GoI). The day to celebrate our country's ongoing and potential tourism journey began under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the 75-week grand celebration launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mark 75 years of India's independence. This day is celebrated with a motive to appreciate our country's beauty and spread awareness of the importance of tourism and its impact on the Indian economy.

Global Presence

It is well-known that India celebrates the UN World Tourism Day, on September 27, with cultural events, workshops, seminars, et al., all aimed at the promotion of tourism. Did you know that in 2008, India was the host of the UN World Tourism Day, which had the theme, "Tourism Responding to the Challenge of Climate Change and Global Warming".

A Variety On Offer

Across the world, India is renowned for its famous and magnificent tourist destinations. Our culturally rich heritage attracts a lot of local and foreign tourists. And it has several types of tourism, such as cultural, nature-based, heritage, education, medical, commerce-based, sports-based, rural and agri-tourism, and river and ocean cruises. Of course, without a doubt, the most important aspect of tourism anywhere, India offers responsible eco-tourism. Each of the states and the union territories celebrate National Tourism Day as per the norms laid down by the MoT of course, the states too add their own cultural events and conferences, as needed. It has been reported that over 7.7 per cent of Indians work in the tourism industry.
