Ranga Shankara in JP Nagar is one of Bengaluru's well-known theatre venues. They host an annual theatre festival with plays in several languages, along with readings and platform performances. The festival has become a landmark in India's theatre scene. The festival is coming back after two years due to the pandemic. In 2020, the event was held online, and last year, it was a mix of virtual and offline events.
This year is the 19th edition of the festival and the theme is "Just Theatre" with all the plays exploring the connotations of "just".
The event was launched on November 1 on Karnataka Rajyotsava day with a Kannada poetry session, Idhu Keluva Samaya (It&rsquos Time to Listen) by prominent female poets. The line-up this year includes There is Something in The Water (English) by Akvarious Productions - written by Henrik Ibsen and directed by Akarsh Khurana Taking Sides (English) by The Company Theatre - written by Ronald Harwood and directed by Atul Kumar Idakini Kathaiaratham (Tamil) by Manalmagudi Theatre Land - written and directed by S Murugabopathy 1984 (Hindi) by Unicorn Actors&rsquo Studio - written by George Orwell and directed by Happy Ranajit, and Apne Ghar (Hindi) Jaisa by Ranga Shankara - written and directed by Anmol Vellani.
You will also get to see college groups perform short plays in their foyer every day. Look out for a reading session with Ratna Pathak Shah on November 4 and 5.
