With touches of old-world grandeur in its forts and havelis, and secrets in its desert, Rajasthan is on every traveller’s wishlist. Different cultures, cuisines and identities make Rajasthan anything but boring. And the capital, Jaipur or the Pink City, is the first choice when it comes to exploring the state. Planning your next weekend here? We tell you how to make the most of Jaipur if you have only 24 hours in hand:

Get a Headstart to Your Day
The Pink City gives you a comfortable option of waking up late and still managing to have a productive day. Why not make the best use of the opportunity? We suggest wake up to a wholesome break from Rawat Ki Kachori which sells the famed and much sought after pyaaz ki kachori. And top it off with their lassi. Post breakfast, head to the magnificent City Palace and witness the life of the royals realtime. A complete tour of the palace would require about two hours and we recommend that you take a whole lot of photographs here.

Spend the Afternoon in the Walled CIty
City Palace during broad daylight

In earlier times, kingdoms ended up being walled to protect them from enemies. Jaipur is a classic example of the same. Four entry points to the city, till today, are marked clearly and will catch your eye. After the royal tour, our recommendation would be to shop till you drop. Jaipur is a shopaholic's paradise, especially if you love handicrafts and handlooms.Vibrant prints in Bapu Bazaar, exquisite jewellery in Johri Bazaar, blue pottery, juttis, bags, mirrorwork products and more. Also did we mention that they are at a walking distance from the Hawa Mahal? Within the four walls exists the local life of those carrying on the legacy of these crafts. An engaging conversation with one such person will surely make your day brighter.

Get Wooed by the Food
A culinary experience like no other awaits you in Jaipur. The spices, preparation and the results will leave you with  enough reason to come back another time. After all, the heavy lifting (we mean the shopping bags) we suggest that (for lunch) you visit Anokhi cafe and gorge on their scrumptious menu. You will be spoilt for choice and nothing will disappoint you. Make sure you do not miss out on the carrot cake with cream cheese topping. After your meal, we suggest you explore the museums for the handicrafts and handlooms. Warning: It might be difficult to stop yourself from adding to your shopping bags.

Light Up Your Evening
Jal Mahal in the evening

Do not let your spirits go down with the sun. Spend a few moments admiring the Jal Mahal which is a treat to the sore eyes with the twilight sky in the background. Four floors of the palace are submerged in the water. However, the one that is visible and above the waters is enough to light up your mood, and Instagram feed. After this, we suggest grabbing a cup of kadak chai at Tapri Central, a favourite amongst Jaipur locals.

Brighter in the Night
Amber Fort in the evening is a delight

If engaging in Rajasthani folk dance and culture is on your bucket list then what better way other than Chowki Dhani. The place needs no introduction as it is the hub of all things Jaipur stands for. Vibrance, colour, Rajasthani thali, you name it and they have it. Cherish a fun-filled evening here and do not leave your experience incomplete by missing out on the Rajasthani thali. However, if you wish to have a rather quiet evening, our pick is Amber fort. With a light and sound show in the evening, the fort can be seen in a very different light. As for dinner, head to Zolocrust at Clarks Amer which serves delectable pizzas and desserts that are made right in front of your eyes.
