For vegans and vegetarians, Greenr Cafe in Delhi is no new haunt. Well-loved and thoroughly appreciated, the cafe attracts customers who are looking for a healthy, wholesome treat. We hear, even ardent meat lovers are ready to forsake their diet for a meal or two at Greenr. While that mystery may lag behind us a bit, our current focus was SPINxGreenr, newly opened in DhanMill compound in Chhatarpur.
As the third Greenr Cafe in Delhi and the very first collaboration with SPIN, this outlet has a lot riding on it. A flat lay interior with plenty of light and room would be the first to greet you. And rest assured, SPIN’s blend of home and office furniture would lure you in and around the store. Perhaps not what you would expect from a vegan cafe--there is no chic chaos or an overthrow of mismatched colours.
SPINxGreenr offers bright colours in a sparse-looking room. A clear-cut design where everything has its place, a methodical thought and approach in everything that they do. The same can be said for their food too. Utilising fresh and organic ingredients, their menu offers a myriad of choices and customisable options.
While everything on the menu is vegetarian, most of it can also be made gluten-free, dairy-free and completely plant-based (yes, including the pizzas too). As a vegetarian, SPINxGreenr was a quiet haven, where we didn’t have search through the menu to find something to eat. Nothing was off the table, so to speak. But such is the convenience of Greenr Cafe.
We spent some time sipping tea, while the chefs whipped up our meal. When the Black Baja beans nachos came our way, we were starving. The nachos made of corn and ragi were dressed with homemade tomato and mango salsa and served with avocado guacamole, fresh cilantro and Mexican vegan cheese.
These black Baja beans were clearly a winner at Greenr and we carried them over in our Earth Bowls too. Each portion was extremely heart and could easily be shared between two. The delectable bowl was layered with brown rice, crispy veggies and those amazing beans. While the sauces were a wee bit generic, by the time our spaghetti landed on the table, we had polished off the bowl completely.
The spaghetti was my favourite and is definitely worth going back for. Whole wheat spaghetti glazed with a rich Neapolitan sauce that was both spicy and flavourful. The creamy shroom balls and truffle oil only added to this plate of perfection. We savoured every bite.
Because the options were plenty and we couldn’t really decide, we called for a half-and-half pizza too. Going conservative with olives and onions, we pushed the bar with their Monaco Blue Cheese Pizza. Topped with apples, walnuts and cranberries, the sweetness of the fruit was balanced with Neapolitan sauce and mozzarella.
Come dessert, we could only manage smoothies. We let the chefs get creative on that one, letting them pick what they thought was best. We ended our meal with a mango and acai berry smoothie each. There’s the thing with vegan food, I found, when the ingredients are so healthy there is little guilt for eating so much.
