Indians love sharing food. Whether it was aloo paratha from our tiffin boxes during school days or exchanging snacks with friendly passengers while on a long train journey, the habit is ingrained in our culture. It’s no surprise then that this translates into our online habits. Being on social media is both a blessing and a curse. With Instagram, it’s more of the former because you’re inundated with a plethora of beautiful photos whether it’s pretty sunsets, beautiful waterfalls or a particularly delicious looking waffle ice-cream. Most millennials are in the habit of snapping photos of their meals and when it comes to fusion food, the temptation is increased manifold.

The very basis of fusion food is based on the concept of trying to fuse ingredients or types of food which might contradict each other at first but blend together to give a unique flavor. This kind of food can hardly be classified as being something new because we’ve all been having it in some form or the other over the years—without even realizing it…think butter chicken pizza and schezuan dosa. The popularity of ‘unicorn food’ might be high all over the world, but here in India, we do things with a twist.

Tandoori momos

Everyone from street vendors and cafes to big restaurants is trying to get the momo right. You must be familiar with steamed and fried momos, but do give a chance to these red-hot balls of fire which will satiate your taste buds like no other. Take your momo-love up a notch by indulging in a North Indian twist to this Tibetan delicacy. Dunk a piece (or four) into some spicy green chutney and don’t forget to wash it down with some chilled lemonade to soothe your tongue. Moreover, its red coating is sure to bring out a pop of color in an otherwise monotone Instagram feed.

Gulab Jamun Cheesecake

Gulab Jamun, easily the most popular and loved dessert in India is the quintessential item present at every Indian event be it a wedding, birthday party or even a formal lunch. The rich sweetness of the jamun complements the creamy and tangy flavor of the cheesecake. It’s truly a match made in heaven. The delicate coating of saffron and rose petals is sure to get you those likes on Instagram.

Naanza

Hungry at home and can’t convince your parents to order a big ol’ pizza? Worry not; you can take your taste buds on a confusing but delicious ride with a Naanza which is basically a naan with pizza toppings of your choice. This dish has a smoky flavor with a hint of crunch in its thin crust. Moreover, it looks great on those wooden sliders in which it arrives.

 Paneer Tacos

Traditionally a Mexican dish, Tacos have gone through a lot of modifications to suit a particular culture’s palette. While it’s usually comprised of wheat or corn based tortilla folds around meat filling, the Indianized version has little chopped up pieces of soft, marinated paneer and sweet corn topped with Mexican spices. Always a hit with kids and adults alike, the riot of flavors and texture will blow your mind with every bite. What could be better than this?
