Sao Joao, the feast held in honour of St John the Baptist, is observed with much fanfare in Goa, especially in Siolim, Anjuna, Candolim, Calangute and Assagao. Held at the beginning of monsoon, it includes events such as retrieving gifts from wells, diving into wells and rivers, boat races, etc. Goa Tourism and Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) have organised the Raindrop Festival during this time. On June 24, 2015, the GTDC has organised a special cruise on board Santa Monica from 10am to 3pm. Various events will be organised on board; such as a Sao Joao march set to Goan tunes, puppetry shows, dance performances, a rain dance with colourful umbrellas, games for kids and adults, etc. And then there will be a buffet spread of Goan delicacies followed by the Splash Dance and the selection of Sao Joao Fest King and Queen. To allow a large number of tourists to enjoy the festival, on June 28, 2015, Sao Joao festivities will be organised at GTDC’s Calangute Residency at Destination One restaurant.
