The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has enabled a new facility for residents who wish to update their address in Aadhaar online. With the consent of the Head of Family (HoF), Aadhaar holders can now virtually change their residential address as given on the Aadhar card

The new procedure can be started after submitting proof of relationship documents like a ration card, mark sheet, marriage certificate, passport, etc. It should include the names of the applicant and the head of the family (HOF), as well as their relationships. The procedure also involves an OTP-based authentication to be performed by the HOF.

This new facility is expected to be helpful to people who are moving cities, towns for various reasons and don't have supporting documents in their own name, according to an official statement. It further adds that any resident above the age of 18 can be an HOF for this purpose and can share their address with relatives through this process.

How To Update The Address In Aadhaar Online

Visit the My Aadhaar portal on https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in

You will then have to enter the HOF's Aadhaar number, which is only for validation. To adequately protect the privacy of the HOF, no additional Aadhaar information would be shown on the screen.

Then, you will be required to upload the Proof of Relationship document following the successful validation of the HOF's Aadhaar number.

UIDAI allows the resident to submit a self-declaration by the HOF in the UIDAI-required format if a Proof of Relationship document is not readily available.

The resident must pay a fee of Rs 50 in order to use the HOF facility for updating their address.

Once the payment has been received successfully, the resident will receive a service request number (SRN), and the HOF will receive an SMS regarding this address request.

The request will be processed if the HOF approves the request and provides their consent by logging into the My Aadhaar portal within 30 days of receiving the notification.

If the HOF declines to provide their address or does not accept or decline within the allotted 30 days of SRN creation, the request will be closed.

The resident using this option will receive an SMS notifying them that their request for an address update has been denied.

The fee will not be reimbursed if the request is closed, rejected due to non-acceptance of the HOF, or rejected during the procedure.
