iPhone-maker Apple’s supplier Foxconn may reportedly start the construction of a mobile phone manufacturing unit in Bengaluru in May. As per a report, this plant may be set up next to Bengaluru International Airport next month by Hon Hai Technology Group, whose part is Foxconn.

According to a report in the Economic Times, state high level clearance committee (SHLC), headed by Karnataka Chief Minister (CM) Bommai had cleared Foxconn’s proposal. This proposal was for the Rs 8,000 crore-worth greenfield plant.

The mentioned plant by Foxconn will also reportedly be set up on a 300-acre plant and is expected to be the largest mobile manufacturing unit in India. In addition to the manufacturing, the plant is also reportedly expected to create about 50,000 jobs over five years.

Foxconn has been making news for the very mentioned purpose in India. The company, known for being associated with Apple, has been planning to set up an electronics manufacturing facility on the outskirts of Bengaluru for quite some time. Experts also believe that apart from helping Foxconn itself and the country, the plant would also help Karnataka in attracting other investments.

Apart from Bengaluru, Foxconn is also reportedly setting up another plant in Telangana. As per last media reports, Foxconn won an order to make AirPods in India and the construction of the facility in Telangana may start in the second half of 2023. However, official updates are awaited.
