Touching a pinnacle of success, SS Rajamouli’s RRR has brought home an Oscar as Naatu Naatu wins the Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards. As Ram Charan and Jr NTR hug each other and India celebrates the several wins at Oscars 2023, including of The Elephant Whisperers, here is a look at how much business the film grossed worldwide.
Before RRR’s big wins of an Oscar and the Golden Globe, the film made headlines for its remarkable box office collections, both in India and worldwide. As per last official updates, the film entered the Rs 1000 crore club, becoming the fourth Indian film in this club, based on its world-wide collections.
According to several media reports, RRR managed to gross Rs 1174 cr worldwide, with its famous song ‘Naatu-Naatu’ becoming an absolute favourite for many. While the film didn’t earn as much as some others from India did, entering the Rs 1000 crore club was a big feat in itself.
Perks Of Winning An Oscar
Winning an Oscar is not just all glory, happiness and pride, but much more. The golden statuette comes with a whopping sum and bounties of money, depending on which category wins. As per media reports, all winners go home with a nice hamper bag, filled with products worth thousands of dollars’. However, while the award may be valuable from a monetary perspective, they can’t sell it! According to Academy’s regulations, winners are not allowed to sell their Oscar. However, under any extraordinary circumstances, they may offer selling it back to the Academy for a particular sum, defined as per the regulations.
Other Indian films that have entered the Rs 1,000 crore are Dangal at Rs 1,968.03 crore, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion at Rs 1,747 crore, KGF 2 at Rs 1,188 crore and most recently, Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan.
In addition to RRR’s business, the viral song Naatu-Naatu’s film director Rajamouli, also won the New York Film Critics Circle award for best director. Ever since its release, the move won the hearts of people globally and also stood out in American theatres.
