Trolet is an acronym for “The Road Less Travelled.” This family-owned homestay in Ujjain is well located. It’s only 3 km to the Mahakaleshwar jyotirlinga and 3.7 km from the Kumbh Mela site, where lakhs descend for a holy dip every 12 years.

Archana and Sanjay Mungi set up their two-storey house, located in a pleasant garden, as a homestay in 2016. The two neat rooms on the first floor have independent balconies, but a share a sunken bath. There are three rooms on the ground floor as well, with en-suite bathrooms, but no balconies. Rooms are simple, and equipped with amenities like flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and terrific Wi-Fi. Other pluses: the place is pet-friendly, has a sun terrace, private parking, and arranges car rentals. Trolet Inn serves only a basic breakfast, but poha, local snacks and thalis are available at Apna Sweets nearby.

An acronym for “The Road Less Travelled”, Trolet is a home away from home.

The highlight of any stay here is undoubtedly the friendly, well-informed owners. Over tea, the charming host Archana expresses pride in being in “Vikramaditya ki nagri,” city of the legendary king known for his wisdom. Expect to hear insider tips from the family. “Ujjain is also famous for its mehendi and sev. Try Jain Namkeen Bhandar at Freeganj, and don’t forget the dal-baphle at Sai Palace near Mangalnath,” recommends the Mungis’ son Vibhor.
