India's top wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, along with many others have been at the forefront of a months long protest against outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment by several female grapplers.
The protest began in January and was halted briefly on the assurance of the sports minister. However, due to the unfulfillment of their demands and a delay in action, wrestlers resumed their dharna at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on April 23 and have been relentlessly fighting for justice, willing to sacrifice even their championship medals. Now, a 1,000-page charge sheet has been filed accusing Singh of assault, sexual harassment and stalking, even as the Delhi Police sought cancellation of the case filed by the ‘minor’.
Outlook stands in solidarity with the protesting wrestlers. You can reach out to us at [email protected] and show support for the wrestlers’ cause.
