I’m among those who like Outlook—I like it for the stances it has often taken, for the stories it carries, I like the fact that Outlook does not have only male columnists (although it could do with more women!) and the special issues that investigate a story in depth or focus on a historical event (for example, the partition) are like collector’s items. Also, it’s important that Outlook Hindi is not a mirror image of Outlook English and that it carries its own stories, and I enjoy reading the stories in Outlook Traveller because they are not always the ‘traditional’ type of travel writing. It’s important that newsmagazines have news, but also necessary that they carry features and in-depth stories. There was a time when Outlook’s books pages used to annoy me for they had only the big books by big publishers—current affairs, scandal, or literary works by big authors—but that has begun to change now.
