Why Are Some Sangh Parivar Leaders Obsessed With The Threat Of Beheading People?

There is a very curious threat that leaders of the Sangh Parivar have recently started resorting to when they reach their limits of non-agreement with people: ‘Behead them’.

Their fascination with severing heads has raised its ugly head again, with a BJP youth-wing leader in West Bengal offering a princely sum of Rs 11 lakh for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s cranium.

Yogesh Varshney, a leader of the BJP’s youth-wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, reportedly issued the threat while condemning the CM for police action at a rally for a religious event on Sunday.

An NDTV report quotes the erudite Varshney, who called Banerjee a ‘demon’ and said: “When I saw the video, I only had one thought... that if anyone gets me Mamata Banerjee's head I will give them 11 lakh.”

Ram-bhakts seem pretty well-versed with the idea of severing heads, be it one or ten, with Varshney calling his Chief Minister a ‘demon’ to make his point.

Recently, a BJP MLA from Hyderabad, Raja Singh suggested mass-beheadings, and no one had really even addressed him. “To those who warn of dire consequences if Ram Mandir built. We were waiting for you to say this so we can behead you,” The Times Of India quotes him saying.

Singh, who has since been booked, had openly taunted the Muslims saying, “Tum hamare pair pakadloo, kahi na kahi hum tumhare Babar ki masjid banadenge (Come and touch our feet, we shall construct Babur’s mosque at some place or the other)”. He warned of a ‘Dadri-like’ incident in Telangana if gau-mata was not given her due.

And it all started in March this year, when RSS leader Chandrawat from Ujjain announced a Rs 1 crore bounty on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s head. “If anyone beheads the Kerala CM, who is the murderer of RSS activists, and brings his head I will bequeath my property worth more than Rs 1 crore to him,” he said.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also been threatened with beheading by a BJP leader from Shivamogga for saying nobody could stop him from eating beef, if he wanted to. The leader was later arrested for the threat.

Though the BJP, time and again, tries to underplay the comments by saying they don’t subscribe to the views, the Congress has said the party cannot shrug off the responsibility.

“The truth is that there is no fringe anymore. These are mainstream elected BJP leaders either in Parliament or the assembly ... This is a political strategy. This is a manifestation of the ugliest form of politics,” said Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha.
