A video of a 17-year-old boy beating his mother with a broomstick has gone viral on social media. The video was reportedly shot by his sister.
In the video, the boy can be seen threatening his mother for speaking ill about him to their neighbours."You will be beaten again if you don't stop doing this [bad mouthing and discussing him with their neighbours]", the boy can be heard saying.
The mother can be seen crying with pain after her son hits her with the broomstick.
Reports say the accused-- identified as a student at a private college, was addicted to smoking and used to attack his mother whenever she advised him to change his habits.

Taking suo motu cognisance, the Bengaluru city police have registered a case against the accused.
"The First Information Report was filed under sections IPC 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (Assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (Insult to modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. He was also charged under sections of the COPTA Act (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act)," The News Minute quoted police officials as saying.
In an even more grave incident from Bengaluru, Sadashivanagar, a 20-year-old man identified as Uttam Kumar allegedly tried to set ablaze his mother for not giving him money to buy alcohol. The woman has been admitted to hospital. A case has been registered and Kumar was not traced by the police, at the time of filing this report.
