Car bomb in Beirut, Lebanon. Believed to have been a American CIA backed attemptto kill the leader of the Hezbollah terrorist group.

1984 August 2: 30 Killed, 24 injured 
Tamil Tiger terrorists blow up Madras airport terminal. The bomb was intended toblow up a Sri Lankan airliner.

1984 September 20 : 23 killed, 21 injuredSuicide bomb attack on US Embassy in East Beirut by the Iranian backed Hezbollahgroup.

Air India Boeing 747 is destroyed by a bomb over the Atlantic. Sikhterrorists are blamed for the attack. Two cargo handlers killed at Tokyo airportwhen another Sikh bomb explodes in an Air Canada aircraft en-route to India.

1988 December 21: 259 killed 
Pan Am Boeing 747 blown up over Lockerbie, Scotland. Attributed to a numberof Middle Eastern terrorist groups. Two Libyan intelligence operatives weretried in connection with this attack. One was convicted in February 2001 in atrial in the Hague, the other set free.

1989 September 19, : 171 killed 
A French U.T.A. DC-10 flying from Brazzaville, the Congo Republic, to Parisexploded over Niger. The Lebanese Islamic Holy War claimed responsibility.France accused Libya.

A hijacked Xiamen Airlines 737 crashed into two parked planes at CantonAirport in China. One of the parked planes was loaded with passengers.

Federal Building in Oklahoma City, United States, totally destroyed bymassive truck bomb. Rightwing extremists Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nicholsonarrested for the largest terrorist attack in modern American history.

1996 November 23 : 123 killed
Ethiopian Airways Boeing 767 hijacked enroute from Addis Adaba to Niarobi anddiverted to Australia, crashes into the Indian Ocean near Comoros Islands, onrunning out of fuel.

1996 December 31: 60 killed, 60 injured 
Train blown up by bomb in Sensapani, Assam by tribal guerillas

1997 April 6: more than 90 civilians killed
Series of attacks by Muslim guerillas in Algeria, using chain saws andknives. Other victims were burnt alive.

1997 April 22: 93 killed
With knives, axes and shovels by Muslim guerillas to the south of theAlgerian capital, Algiers. A further 42 people were killed in a similar attackthe following day.

1997 September 22: 200 killed
Massacred by Muslim guerillas in suburb of Algerian capital, in attack withaxes and knives.

1998 August 7: 257 killed, 4000 injured
US Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar-es-Salem, Tanzania, heavily damagedby massive bomb attacks. In the Nairobi attack 247 people were killed, including12 Americans, and 4,000 injured. Ten people were killed and 74 injured inTanzania incident. Osama Bin Laden blamed.

2001 August 10 : 152 killed 
A passenger train was attacked by Unita rebels south of Luanda, Angola, one ofthe bloodiest incidents in Angola's long-running civil war.
