City Police Commissioner K.Muthukaruppan today asked the Sun TV to stop telecasting clippings of the arrestof the DMK President M Karunanidhi, as, he said, the continuance of the telecastwould disturb public tranquility.

"If the Sun TV continued the telecast, action would be taken against itin accordance with the law", he said in an order.

He said Sun TV was telecasting the news item on the arrest of Karunanidhitwisted. Since Karunanidhi, supported by the Union Minister Murasoli Maranresisted the arrest, he was taken from his residence, he said.

"However, this aspect has been deliberately twisted and being telecastin Sun TV as if Karunanidhi was beaten, roughed up and dragged, which is utterlyfalse", he said.

Sun TV was also telecasting the alleged views of the public criticising thearrest in such a way as to incite violence and disturb public tranquility, hesaid.

He said he was passing the order, since he had been nominated as thecompetant authority under the Cable Television Networks Regulation Act, toprohibit any cable operator from telecasting any particular programme if it waslikely to promote feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will among variousreligions, racial, linguistic or regional groups or castes or which was likelyto disturb public tranquility.
