Indian shooters continued to disappoint on Day 5 of the Tokyo Olympics. Little changed for India on Tuesday as shooters like Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary, Elavenil Valarivan and Divyansh Singh Panwar, all medal hopes, continued to falter in the mixed team events at the Asaka Shooting Range. Mirabai Chanu is the lone medallist for India so far. Sharath Kamal took a game off Olympic champion Ma Long of China in a third-round match and was outplayed after that. Badminton doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy also bowed out.  Lovlina Borgohain in boxing advancing to the quarterfinals and the Indian men's hockey team defeating Spain were the only bright spots. The entries were to be finalised on Tuesday morning and the cut was expected to be between 50-60. The Indians did not even have faint hopes of getting into the easiest of tennis events at the Games.

Game 2: Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy take the second game 21-19 in 24 minutes to beat Ben Lane and Sean Vendy of Great Britain.

The Indian pair won the match 2-0 (21-17, 21-19) in 44 minutes.

But the win's not enough as Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin of Chinese Taipei defeated the top-seeds Indonesian pair of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.

Indonesian, Taipei and Indian teams finished with two wins, and the two top teams are decided on games difference.

SHOOTING PREVIEW

India’s Air Pistol and Air Rifle shooters are all set for the Mixed Team events. The 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team and 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team competitions are making their Olympic debuts and India are looking very good on form.

In 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team, India will have two pairs -- Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker and Abhishek Verma and Yashaswini Singh Deswal. In 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team, India will field another two pairs -- Divyansh Singh Panwar and Elavenil Valarivan and Deepak Kumar and Anjum Moudgil.

Like all shooting events, there will be qualifiers and then the medal rounds. After the first qualification stage, the top eight pairs progress to the second qualification stage. The top two pairs at the end of the second qualification stage will contest the gold-medal match while the third and fourth-placed pairs will play the bronze-medal match.

On paper, India could win four medals from the shooting range on Tuesday. India best return from shooting has been at London 2012 when Vijay Kumar won silver and Gagan Narang bronze.
