Young batsman Prithvi Shaw played a gem of an innings, but missed on a hundred by one run then survived some anxious moments as Delhi Capitals beat Kolkata Knight Riders on shoot-out during the 10th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 on Saturday.

Delhi's chase of a 186-run target imploded soon after the dismissal of Shaw, as Kuldeep Yadav defended six runs from the last over, forcing a Super Over at Feroz Shah Kotla ground.

But it was another Delhi youngster who sparkled in the tense situation. Kagiso Rabada produced a stunning over to defend 10 runs in the Super Over.

So how did all unfold under a gloomy Delhi night sky?

There was a slight drizzle before the toss. But there was no delay in the start or stoppage during the match. Delhi won a crucial toss and opted to field first. And by the 91. over, they have reduced the favourites to 61/5. Then Andre Russell and skipper Dinesh Karthik not only repaired the KKR innings but also made sure that they a total to fight for. Russell once again played a knock of the highest quality, hitting 62 off 28 balls. Karthik himself scored a fifty off 36 balls.

Delhi were in control of the chase for most of the match, with Shaw keeping the innings together But hey conspired to factor in a super over after Shaw's departure in the penultimate over with team score at 174. Then, it all happened. Two wickets, and a super over.

Another youngster made sure Delhi take what's theirs all night by defending 10 runs against Russell and Karthik.

The match started as a clash between two bug hitters Rishabh Pant and Russell but ended with Shaw winning the man of the match award.

Despite the defeat, KKR remained in top spot with four points, while Delhi have climbed up to second with same numbers of points. KKR have a better net run-rate. In fact, as many as four teams are with four points. Chennai Super Kings are third with same numbers of points but have a game in hand. KXIP are fourth thanks to their negative net run rate. HERE's the updated points table.

10:04 PM IST: Andre Russell, who's now taken the Orange Cap for the most runs, admitted that it was tough for him after getting hit on the shoulder. What if that had happened?

For Delhi, Nepalese sensation Sandeep Lamichhane was outstanding in debut. One wicket for 29 runs. The 18-year-old was the thriftiest of the lot.

9:57 PM IST: Kagiso Rabada on with the last over of the innings. The first ball was guided down the third man for a four by ever enterprising Piyush Chawla. A misfield from none other than Delhi skipper Shreyas Iyer allowed a second. Another double followed. Then a single. Scoring: 0-1-4-1-0-1.

And that golf-swing came into play as Andre Russell pocketed the fifth ball of the over into the second tier. A wide. Harshal Patel feeling the heat. An attempted slower delivery gone horribly wrong. So slow that Russell chased after it but let it past seeing the distance he needed to cover. Then, the Jamaican launched the last ball into the orbit. Might hit. 20 runs from the over. KKR were 138/5. Patel's spell completed: 4-0-40-2.

Scoring: 4-1-1-1-6-1Wd-6.

9:27 PM IST: Chris Morris returned for his second over. A single to Dinesh Karthik to start the over. Another single as Andre Russel picked the short delivery but failed to time it. Another single. An inside edge and it beat everyone, including the wicketkeeper and the fielder at short fine leg, for a four. Umpire has called up Morris. Replays showed the South African almost twisting his flailing leg while landing to deliver the fourth delivery. He did well to keep the ball from releasing. Would have Medical attention required. Not a good sight. Four leg byes followed, down the leg. And a back flip from Rishabh Pant to entertain the Delhi crowd. Russell hit the last ball over long off for a six. 17 runs from the over. KKR were 118/5 after 15 overs.

Scoring: 1-1-1-4-4L-6.

8:48 PM IST:  Sandeep into the attack. And Gill has been run out going for the third run. Brilliant fielding by Rabada as he paced towards the ball and saved a boundary. Harshal followed it up with a brilliant throw and Gill was caught ball watching as he failed to make it in time at the non-strikers' end. FoW 61/5 (9.1 Overs) Russell walked in. Can he resurrect KKR's innings?

Scoring: 2W-1-0-1-1-0

8:42 PM IST: Iyer introduces Mishra into the attack. DK took a single off the second ball.  Gill played a cover drive. No run, but found a single off the next ball.  A lucky four of the last ball as DK cut and got an under edge that went past the keeper. After 9 Overs KKR are 59/4. Time-out.

8:33 PM IST  A blinder from Pant.  An acrobatic effort. Takes an exceptional catch diving towards his left to dismiss Lynn. Rabada is jubilant and DC are ecstatic. FoW 40/3 (6.5 Overs) DK walk in and Rabada strays down the pads and DK flicks it to the boundary off his legs.

Scoring: 0-1-1-2-W-4

8:04 PM IST: Nikhil Naik and Chris Lynn walk in to open KKR's innings. A streaky start to Naik as he inside edged the ball past the leg stump for a boundary of Rabada. A couple of dot balls, and then he takes a single.  Chris Lynn times one to the fence.

Scoring: 4-wd-0-1-0-4-2.

7:56 PM IST: Sandeep Lamichane is a very good inclusion for DC. The leg spinner from Nepal has been impressive lately.  And this wicket will provide him the right assistance.

7:52 PM IST:  Surprise! Surprise! Four changes in the Delhi team for today;'s match. Hanuma Vihari, Harshal Patel, Chris Morris, and Sandeep Lamichhane come in for the crucial game.  And for KKR! Sunil Narine is out with an injury. And Nikhil Naik comes in.

7:15 PM IST:  We are 15 minutes away from the toss and the covers are off. We have an exciting game in hand.  It is to be seen how the pitch behaves. The captain winning the toss will most likely put the opposition to bat to see how the Kotla wicket behaves.

6:57 PM IST: The drizzle seems to have gone away. The skies are getting clear.  The pitch might be on the slower side and might assist the spinners.  It is gonna be a battle of the spinners. Here's the preview for more details.

6:43 PM IST: The slight drizzle could be the calm before the Storm. Delhi will be in for a thunderous evening with the clash of the power-hitting giants Russel and Pant.  Even the heavens are getting geared for the Russell-Pant storm.

6:25 PM IST: And there's slight drizzle in Delhi. Shouldn't be a problem though.

6:15 PM IST: Key numbers ahead of the toss:

In the 23 previous meetings, KKR has won 13 times as against Delhi, who used to be Daredevils, winning nine. There was one abandoned match too. Former KKR captain Gautam Gambhir is the leading scorer in this fixture, with 569. He sure loved to punish his 'home' team.

5:40 PM IST: What happened so far?

KKR are the table toppers, having beaten SunRisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab in their first two matches. And featuring heavily in those wins were Andre Russell, the big Jamaican all-rounder who deals in boundaries and has the knack of picking important wickets. Delhi started their 2019 IPL campaign on a rousing note, defeating three-time champions Mumbai Indians then lost to Chennai Super Kings.
