Cyrus Broacha, one of the most popular satirists in the country best known for his TV shows, The Week That Wasn’t and Bakra, has said that he would not crack a joke on BJP president Amit Shah.

He has revealed this while addressing students at Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata, on Saturday afternoon, reported The Telegraph newspaper.

So, why wouldn’t he crack a joke on Amit Shah?

He said the reason is “purely, purely out of fear.”

"We try not to be personal. But I must say there are lots of people we haven't touched. We never touch Mahatma Gandhi. We won't touch Amit Shah. We didn't touch Bal Thackeray while he was alive. This is purely, purely out of fear. I cannot lie," he said, as quoted by Telegraph.

“On television we have to be careful. Ultimately it is a question of survival. What can you do?" he said.

Commenting on the life under the current government, he said, “It’s almost like living in the Soviet Union and now under the present government, it is a bit like that...."

"We have to cut down a little bit on the hate that's brewing. It's now a little scary.... I just hope we take it a little laid back and easy," he said.
