Former Tamil Nadu Minister and DMK MLA Dr K Ponmudi has been arrested on acharge of trespassing into a state civil supplies corporation godown inVillupuram, about 150 km from here, the police said today.
Ponmudi was picked up late last night in Villupuram following a complaintlodged by the manager of the godwon,they said here.
The police were on the look out for Ponmudi after he made a surprise visit to thegodown yesterday in connection with the ongoing 'rice controversy'.
Ponmudi, who represents Villupuram constituency in the assembly, hadmaintained that as a people's representative he had the right to visit thegodown to check the quality of rice stored there.

State Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister V. Subramaniam and Commercial TaxesMinister C.V. Shanmugham, who visited the godown last week, had alleged that ahuge quantity of rice stocked there was substandard.
Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha had recently ordered directorate of Vigilanceand anti-corruption probe into the charge that huge quantity of rice and paddyprocured during the previous DMK government was of substandard quality. (PTI)
