Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was inadvertently mentioned as a Non-Hindu in the registrar of the Somnath Temple, which he visited today, ahead of the crucial assembly elections in Gujarat.

Congress party's media coordinator Manoj Tyagi made the goof-up when he wrote the name of Gandhi in the special registrar for non-hinuds visiting the temple, while writing the name of Congress MP Ahmed Patel, reported the Times of India.

BJP IT Cell Head Amit Malviya took the gaffe as an opportunity to fire salvos at the Congress Vice President, saying the latter has finally come clean on what religion he practices.

"Finally, Rahul Gandhi comes clean on his religion, signs visitor registrar in Somnath (as per rule) meant for non-Hindus. If he isn't a Hindu by faith, let alone a practicing one, then why has he been fooling people with these temples visits?" he tweeted.

Rahul Gandhi  is currently in Gujarat on a two-day campaign tour. He kicked off the  trip with a visit to the famous Somnath temple.

The BJP and Prime Minister Modi, who also continued his high decibel campaign in poll-bound Gujarat, on Wednesday criticised Gandhi over his temple visits in the state, saying the country’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru had expressed displeasure over building the place of worship.

“If there was no Sardar Patel, the temple in Somnath would never have been possible. Today some people are remembering Somanth, I have to ask them: ‘Have you forgotten your history’? Your family members, our first prime minister, was not happy with the idea of a temple being built there,” he said in a rally.
