A 17-year-old girl died after she was allegedly raped by three youths in Punjab's Fazilka district in Jalalabad, the police said on Monday.
The incident occurred on October 25 when the girl was returning home from school when three motorcycle-borne youths, including a minor boy, allegedly waylaid her, as per a complaint lodged by the victim's mother, they said.
The victim, a Class 11 student, was taken to nearby fields where she was raped by the three youths, deputy superintendent of police (Jalalabad) Amarjit Singh said.
She died of excessive bleeding on Sunday night, Singh said.
He said the victim's family did not disclose about the incident to the police who came to know about it after a villager informed them about the death of the girl.

“The family took it as a blot on their honour. It is an extremely backward area. The girl needed immediate medical attention but they never took her to a hospital,” added the DSP.
On the basis of the complaint, a case of murder and gangrape was registered against a minor youth and two unidentified persons.
The body has been sent for a postmortem, the DSP said.
No arrests have been made so far, he said, adding investigations were underway.
