National Conference vice president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said his party’s decision to join hands with Mehbooba Mufti’s People's Democratic Party (PDP) is “to save J&K from current mess”.

“This understanding (of an alliance) was formed to take the State from the current mess, from the uncertainty we find ourselves in,” he said.

The NC leader also said that the decision to take legal recourse against governor's action lies with the PDP.

"Legally, we don't have s case to make. As I don't have a document on which to claim that the governor ignored what we had to say. My conversation was with the PDP. It's for the PDP to decide whether it wants to take legal recourse. I didn't provide documentary support," news agency ANI quoted him saying.

Addressing a press conference a day after Governor Satya Pal Malik dissolved the assembly, Abdullah demanded an investigation into his claim that there was horse-trading and the use of money in the attempts towards government formation in the state.

Abdullah also hit out at BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav over his remarks that the NC and Peoples Democratic Party joined hands on directions from across the border.

"You cannot undermine the sacrifices made by National Conference workers in protecting the sovereignty of this country. He must apologise," Abdullah said.

On Wednesday, senior state BJP leader Kavinder Gupta also accused the PDP, NC and Congress of forming the government on behest of Pakistan.

Gupta said the alliance has “Pakistan’s blessing.” Speaking to Outlook, Gupta said previously some MLAs have held meetings for the formation of the government. “We believe it is all done on behest of Pakistan,” he claimed.

Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday decided to dissolve state assembly hours after the PDP staked claim to form a government with the backing of rival National Conference and the Congress, followed by another bid from the two-member People's Conference which claimed the support of the BJP and 18 legislators from other parties.
