Pakistan Rakes Up Kashmir Issue At OIC

Pakistan has once again raked up the Kashmir issue at the ongoing meeting of Organisation ofIslamic Conference (OIC) in Mali and asserted it would never bargain on its basic position of supporting self-determinationby the Kashmiri people.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Abdus Sattar said he expected that the Vajpayee-Musharraf summit would discuss the Kashmirdispute meaningfully and seek a solution in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people. 

"With their (Kashmiri) own lives and the future generations to come at stake, the Kashmiris continue to wage adesperate struggle for dignity and freedom," Sattar was quoted by the "Daily Dawn" as saying.

Sattar, who also received a memorandum from former Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz UmerFarooq, said "history testifies to the lesson that progress towards a settlement responsive to the legitimate aspirations of theKashmiri people is indispensable for the South Asian region to emerge from the time warp of abnormal relations."

Sattar said Kashmir issue was not a territorial dispute but a question involving fundamental rights of the people,the daily said. 

The Mirwaiz is also participating in the OIC Foreign Ministers' meet as Hurriyat Confernce enjoys a status of a"special observer" in the Islamic conglomerate
