An oil spill in chennai as a result of a collision between two cargo ships  off the Kamarajar Port in Ennore has been polluting the beaches in Chennai.

The damage caused has been intense, as the spill has already started affecting local livelihood and aquaculture. On top of that, fishermen in Ennore are unable to go fishing, reports NDTV.

Reports also suggest that the spill lead to the loss of lives of multiple Olive Ridley turtles.

Apart from flaura and fauna the calamity will affect human lives as well. As reported by The Hindu, people have been warned to not step out on the beaches after the spill as it is very harmful to the skin and inhaling the benzene found in such fuels could lead to breathing problems.

Private companies have been invited to bid for the massive cleanup work that is required, as the Coast Guard does not have the necessary technical expertise to do the same, reports the Scroll.
