After leading then little-known Leicester City to the English Premier League title last season, manager Claudio Ranieri has been sacked by the club immediately after their away game against Sevilla in the Champions League in mid-week.

According to The Guardian, Leicester’s vice-chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, in a statement said: “This has been the most difficult decision we have had to make in nearly seven years.”

The Italian’s sacking comes two weeks after the club re-iterated their support for the man that led a team of 5000-1 outsiders to the summit of English football last season. The euphoria has died down a bit this time around though with the club languishing in the 17th spot in the Premier League, a position away from the dreaded drop to the second tier.

Earlier this week, Ranieri had said that the game against Spanish side Sevilla could turn the season around for his beleaguered side. The reigning English champions were two goals down in the game and  striker Jamie Vardy scored his first Champions league goal to secure the hope of a comeback in the second leg of the tie.

The foxes will be without Ranieri though, and reports say that fellow Italian Roberto Mancini is in line to replace him.
