Modi To Gift 200 Cows To Rwandan President During Africa Visit

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-nation tour to Africa from July 23-27, he will carry a special gift to the Rwandan President. He will gift 200 Indian cows to the  African leader.

"India to give 200 cows to Rwanda. India attaches highest importance to Rwanda, two lines of credit will be extended to Rwanda during Prime Minister Modi's visit," T.S. Tirumurti, secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs told reporters at a briefing in New Delhi on Friday.

According to a report by The Indian Express, this  gift is meant to be India's contribution to Rwandan President Paul's flagship ‘Girinka’ programme, launched in 2006 to give one cow for one poor family.

Prime Minister Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Rwanda.

The Prime Minister will first visit Rwanda, followed by Uganda and South Africa.

During the first leg of his visit, the Prime Minister will have a brief interaction with the Indian community in Rwanda where he will be accorded ceremonial reception, T S Tirumurti, secretary (Economic Relations) in the MEA, told reporters at a briefing.

Two lines of credit are set to be announced to Rwanda by India during Prime Minister Modi's visit.

During the two-day visit in Uganda, Prime Minister Modi will call on Uganda President Yoweri Museveni and hold a delegation level talk.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to address Uganda's Parliament and the Indian diaspora.

Two lines of credit will also be announced for Uganda during Prime Minister's visit, the MEA said.

During the last leg of the visit, the Prime Minister will attend the BRICS Summit in South Africa.

Inclusive growth, health and vaccines, peacekeeping, and sustainable development will be the core agenda during the BRICS summit, announced MEA.

"BRICS leaders retreat will also be organised during the BRICS summit to discuss future prospects," MEA said.

"Few bilateral meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with leaders participating in BRICS have also been scheduled," Tirumurti said.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
