Malayalam Comedian And Mimicry Artist Abi, Known For His Character Of Amina Thatha, Dies

Malayalam comedy actor and mimicry artist, Aby, who is well-known for his comic character of a traditional Muslim woman, Amina Thatha, died at a private hospital in Kochi on Thursday morning.

According to Manorama, 52-year-old Aby had been under treatment for drastic fall in platelet counts.

Starting his career with the Mammooty-starrer film Nayam Vyakthamakkunnu in 1991, Aby has acted in more than 50 films in Malayalam. His best performances include films such as Kireedamillatha RajakkanmarMimics Action 500 etc.

Abi, originally Habeeb Muhammad, is one of the many actors who made their career in Malayalam film industry through their stage performances in mimicry.  He has worked as a mimicry artist with the troops such as Kalabhavan, Harisree and Kochin Sagar. Apart from the stage shows, he had also released several popular audio cassettes.

His character of Amina Thatha, which he played on several stages, was a sure crowd puller. His imitation of Amitabh Bachchan was perhaps his masterpiece in his mimicry career.

His son, Shane Nigam, is also an actor in Malayalam. He made his debut with the film 'Kismath' in 2016.
