From selling fish to taking tuitions and doing cameo roles in movies, 20-year-old college student Hanan Hamid from Thiruvanthapuram has come a long way.

Hanan was the showstopper at the Khadi Fashion Show held as a part of the board’s annual Onam-Bakrid sales that began at Kanakakkunn Palace in Thiruvanthapuram on Wednesday. While others were draped in bright hues, she stood out from the crowd in her cream sari paired with a royal blue blouse.

Khadi Board Vice Chancellor Shobhana George, however, clarified that they had no plans of limiting this young bright spark as khadi’s brand ambassador.

George told Onmanorama, “We called her to be a showstopper of the fashion show, but we have not yet thought of giving her the role of a brand ambassador.”

Hanan was made to sit in the front row of the inaugural of Onam Bakrid expo. She also recited a short poem for the function and the chief minister presented her a glass charkha and a pen as a token of appreciation.

Hanan recently shot to fame when her video clip of selling fish in college uniform went viral on social media showering her with praises as well as with condemnation. The video also helped her to land her a role in Arun Gopy’s next movie.

The BSC Chemistry student travels for 60 kilometers to sell fish after college. According to reports, Hanan’s parents were divorced after her father turned alcoholic and he continued to stay with her mother and uncle who gave them shelter. Other than selling fish she also sells snacks and does anchoring for shows.
