Students of Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University have accused the institute’s administration of blocking YouTube channels of certain media groups but the university has denied it.
A video posted on social media shows how the YouTube channels of Wire and NDTV are restricted when tried to access through the wifi provided by JNU administration onthe campus. The video also shows how these channels are available on YouTube when accessed through other internet connections.
The JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) has confirmed the issue as true. The Hindustan Times quoted JNUSU president Geeta Kumari as saying, “Access has been blocked to news sites of NDTV, The Wire, etc. We are redirected to a page that says we are trying to access “adult content.” We cannot even access YouTube videos of previous presidential debates at JNU. This has been going on since Friday.”

However, JNU rector Rana Pratap, in a tweet, denied these allegations and said, “There is no change in the URL filtering policy of JNU.”
Former JNUSU Vice President and activist Shehla Rashid tweeted that YouTube videos related to student movements, keyword search related to Mamata Bannerjee, Rahul Gandhi, Shehla Rashid, Kejriwal, Kanhaiya were also censored.
