A total of forty nine people and three bulls sustained injuries at the jallikattu event held in Palamedu, in Madurai.

After the month long furore and debate over Jallikattu, the sport was conducted after a gap of two years. There were as many as 354 bulls and around 1,000 bull-tamers who participated in the event, as reported by The Hindu.

The event began at around 8 a.m. with the administration of a pledge on safety by Madurai Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao to the bull tamers, bull owners and the organising committee representatives, as reported by The Hindu.

More than 2000 police were deployed for security duty at the event venue. Before the bulls were released, special poojas were performed and offerings made to the presiding deity as well.
