On Monday, a group of people demanding a permanent lift of ban on Jallikattu set a police station on fire near the Marina beach in Chennai.

The angry mob also set vehicles on fire near the area.

Earlier in the day, the police started removing scores of protesters signalling the end of the week-long protests that had been backed by political parties including ruling AIADMK and DMK.

The police closed down routes leading to Marina Beach to stop the protestors. But the protestors started singing the National Anthem and some of them even threatened to commit suicide.

On Sunday, the bull fighting sport was organised in many parts of the state after the Tamil Nadu governor passed a special ordinance on Saturday.

After the Governor's address to the Assembly, the government is expected to move a bill to amend the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
