Indian Scribes, Vehicles Barred Entry To Nepal

The media and all vehicles from India have been disallowed permission toenter Nepalese territory following the assassination of king Birendra queenAishwarya and other members of the royal family, officials said here today.

In Patna, state home secretary U.N. Panjiar told PTI that he had receivedreports that all vehicular traffic from Bihar had been stopped at Raxaul on theIndo-Nepal border.

Authorities of the districts bordering Nepal had been asked to keep a watchon the situation in view of extraordinary developments in the Himalayan kingdom,he said.

The airport at Semra near Birganj in Nepal was closed and all flightscancelled.

Journalists of the electronic media, made futile attempts to convince Nepaleseauthorities at the Birganj border outpost to allow them to proceed for Kathmanduto cover developments, but in vain.

Sujit Jha, the representative of private TV channel Aaj Tak told PTI overphone from Raxaul that no vehicle from the Indian side was being allowed toenter Nepalese territory.

He said hundreds of trucks laden with Indian goods were stranded at Raxaulthough pedestrians were being allowed to enter Nepal.

A Siliguri report said Indian vehicles were being denied entry along thekingdom's eastern border with West Bengal.

A group of Indian journalists trying to reach Kathmandu, were stopped at theKankarvita check post this morning and asked to go back.
