India woke to near-empty streets and restricted movement on Monday as railway, metro and interstate bus services were be stopped to prevent the spread of coronavirus, which has infected over 390 people and killed seven persons in the country.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, there were 396 confirmed cases of Covid-19 or the novel coronavirus as of Sunday night.
The railways have shut all passenger train services till March 31. Only goods trains are allowed to run in order to ensure essential services and transport of essential goods such as food and medicine.
Interstate buses and metro services will also be stopped even as several states close borders.

The Delhi government on Sunday said the city will be in lockdown from March 23 to 31, under which no public transport, including private buses, taxis and autorickshaws will be allowed. Section 144 was also imposed in the capital.
National capital Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan have announced a complete lockdown that involves shutting down public transport, malls, shops, offices and commercial establishments barring essential services. As per the Centre's advice, 75 districts across 22 states and union territorries, which saw confirmed cases of COVID-19, have also been put under lockdown.
