After a 24-year-old man was found in an objectionable position with his girlfriend at her home at a village in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, the youth was lynched to death by the girl's family members, helped by villagers, reported Times of India on Monday.
Suraj Pal of Sherpur village had gone to his girlfriend's house and was having an intimate moment with her when the girl's brother, Gautam Pal, entered the room and found the couple in an inappropriate position. Gautam cornered Suraj, who took out his unlicensed gun and shot him.
As the villagers in nearby homes heard the sound of a gunshot, they gathered at the house and, along with Gautam's family members, pinned down Suraj and started thrashing him. According to the report, they beat the youth with sharp-edged weapons, resulting in critical head injuries. He was taken to a hospital but was declared as brought dead.

A case has been registered against six people and Suraj's body has been sent for post-mortem.
"Suraj Pal of Sherpur Chamrah village was caught in a compromising position with his girlfriend. He opened fire at the girl's brother, Gautam, and this triggered a bloody retaliation from her family members and villagers. While Suraj died on spot, Gautam was referred to a Lucknow hospital," said Gorakhpur SSP Sunil Gupta.
