Cold wave and dense fog engulfed Delhi and other parts of North India on Sunday morning. As India's hill stations remained covered under a thick blanket of snow, several states like Delhi, Punjab and UP also witnessed a severe dip in temperatures.
Heavy rains lashed the national capital and surrounding areas on Saturday, which resulted in waterlogging in many areas.
The minimum temperature in Delhi is likely to remain below 9 degrees Celsius for the next few days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
“Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rainfall to occur over some parts of south Delhi (Ayanagar, Deramandi, Tughalkabad), and some districts of Haryana, the IMD tweeted.

"As per our forecast, the impact of a western disturbance has begun over northwest India, including Delhi. Palam has reported 0.4 mm rainfall. Ridge, Ayanagar and Lodi Road recorded traces of rainfall," the IMD had said on Saturday.
Snowfall warning in Himachal Pradesh
The Shimla Meteorological Department predicted rainfall and snowfall in parts of the state from January 3 to 5 and on January 8. It also issued a yellow alert for January 5 and predicted thunderstorm and lightning in plains and low-lying areas of the state from January 3 to 5.
The Meteorological Department issues colour-coded warnings to alert the public ahead of severe or hazardous weather conditions which can cause "damage, widespread disruption and/or danger to life". Yellow is the least dangerous alert.

Weather updates in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh
The minimum temperature rose on Sunday in most parts of Punjab and Haryana following rains in both states. Chandigarh recorded its minimum temperature at 11.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday, six degrees above normal, an official of the India Meteorological Department said.
Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded their respective lows at 11.3, 11.1 and 11 degrees Celsius, up to eight degrees above normal.
Meanwhile, Cold wave conditions prevailed at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh. Very dense fog was reported western UP and shallow to moderate fog was reported in eastern part of the state.
