The Jammu and Kashmir government on Sunday said that senior Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani's health condition is stable.

In a statement, the J&K administration spokesperson said: “According to Director, SKIMS, Dr A. G. Ahangar, the condition of the senior political leader, Syed Ali Geelani, is stable and he is conscious, cooperative and oriented. A team of doctors is monitoring his condition.”

On Sunday morning, Dr A G Ahangar said, “Dr Parvez Koul HOD Medicine along with a Chest Physiotherapist assessed him earlier during the day. As per his assessment, he is stable though he continues to suffer from a chest infection, in fact recovering, presently stable, and is better than before, taking liquid diet and other medicines prescribed by the Chest Physician, Dr Naveed from Chest Medicine Deptt of GMC Srinagar.”

On Tuesday, the J&K administration snapped internet services in the Valley in the wake of rumours about the deteriorating health of veteran leader's health.

The Internet was restored on Thursday afternoon, with the police warning of action against all those spreading rumours.

Geelani has been spearheading the separatist movement in Kashmir Valley since the eruption of militancy in 1990.

He has been largely under house arrest since the summer agitation of 2010.

Geelani is a three-time MLA, having won from Sopore constituency in 1972, 1977 and 1987.

He, however, renounced electoral politics following the eruption of militancy Kashmir.
