Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday thanked his followers on Twitter after his follower count crossed ten million on the micro-blogging site and will be celebrating the "milestone" in Amethi.

Gandhi tweeted, "10 Million Twitter followers - thank you to each and every one of you!

I will celebrate the milestone in Amethi, where I will be meeting our Congress workers & supporters today."

Gandhi joined Twitter in April 2015. Compared to his 10 million followers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who joined Twitter in January 2009, has 48.5 million followers on the social media platform.

The Congress leader is set to visit Amethi, his traditional Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, for the first time since he was defeated by his BJP rival Smriti Irani.
