On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the achievements of women in different domains and bolstered the idea of women being empowered with opportunities and dignity.
"On National Girl Child Day, we salute our #DeshKiBeti and the accomplishments in various fields," PM Modi said in a tweet.
The central government has undertaken many initiatives that focus on empowering the girl child, including access to education, better healthcare and improving gender sensitivity, he said.
"Today is also a day to specially appreciate all those working towards empowering the girl child and ensuring she leads a life of dignity and opportunity," the Prime Pinister said in another tweet.

India celebrates the National Girl Child Day, an initiative of the ministry of women and child development, every year on January 24 since 2008. The objective is to raise social consciousness about the girl child, rampant female foeticide, and how opportunities for women can be increased so that she is valued and respected.
Other political leaders and celebrity also took to Twitter to mark the day, with #DeshKiBeti soon trending on the microblogging platform.
Union Minister Smriti Irani took to Twitter to celebrate the achievements of her daughters who have "set out onto different frontiers with determination and confidence."
"My daughters are my pride who have set out onto different frontiers with determination and confidence. Give a shoutout to a #DeshKiBeti and celebrate their achievements," she wrote.

MP Kiren Rijiju also shared a message honouring PM Modi's commitment to enhancing opportunities for women.
"Our daughters are our future. Today as we celebrate the National Girl Child Day, let’s follow our Hon'ble PM Sh@NarendraModi Ji’s commitment in ensuring equal rights and opportunities for India's pride #DeshKiBeti Let's put all out support to #BetiBachaoBetiPadhao," he wrote.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri extolled the achievements of women in civil aviation and their key role in the fight against Covid-19.
"Women professionals associated with the civil aviation sector have played a key role in our efforts against COVID-19. #DeshKiBeti Swati Raval was the Captain of the @airindiain flight that brought back 263 passengers trapped in Rome during the lockdown," he wrote.
Nine-year-old climate activist Licypriya Kangujam wrote, "Every girl child can dream and achieve anything!"
The government will increase awareness campaigns about the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, which was launched on 22 January 2015 to address a slew of issues hindering opportunities for women in the country.
