2010 IAS topper Shah Faesal, who recently resigned from the service, said on Friday that he wants to put across a small act of defiance through his resignation.
“I am protesting against lack of credible political initiative by the central government. It is important that right to life of Kashmiri people are respected,” he said while addressing a press conference in Srinagar.
He said that he wouldn’t be joining the separatist politics as he was a man from the system and would be happy to change things by being in the system. Hurriyat, he said, doesn’t give him an opportunity as they don’t believe in electoral politics.

Shah Faesal said the culture of undermining the institutions like the CBI and the RBI are part of the provocations that have resulted in his decision.
“It is an important day in my life today. After serving for nine years, I have decided to resign from the service. The resignation has nothing to do with the factors inside the service, but everything to do with factors outside. I would be always proud ex-member of the service,” he said.
He said in recent years he had seen constant attacks on the special status of Jammu and Kashmir including attacks on Article 370 and 35A. “One more reason for resignation is the failure of the government to facilitate the return of Kashmiri Pandits”, he added. He said people of India need to come to the rescue of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said he would be looking for the support of the people of the country.
While spelling out his politics he said it was time to disrupt the politics the way with which it was functioning in Jammu and Kashmir. He said he was inspired by Kejriwal and Imran Khan, thus hinting that he was not averse of an independent initiative.
Responding to a question whether he would join any party, he said it is not time to do politics on the graves of people and the political parties across the board need to come together to rescue the state.
However, he said he would be very happy to contest the elections for the assembly and parliament and as these are important institutions.
He said he had been speaking out constantly since he joined the service about the issue and he had thought about the resignation.
“But resignation is tactical weapon and it should be used at right time,” he added.
He said problem throughout system is that we are asking politicians to solve municipal problems and military to resolve political problem
“I am not here as an alternative, I see myself as addition to the existing politics,” he added.
“I don’t want to launch a political party immediately. It would be dividing existing votes. I am free now and I have now my entire life for Kashmir,” he said.
