The electoral battle to win the Lok Sabha elections is in full swing with all the political parties aggressively campaigning across the country. After the Congress released its manifesto on Tuesday, the battle has become sharper with the BJP targetting the Congress over its pledge to amend AFSPA and remove other controversial laws.

The Rajasthan Loktantra Party (RLP) on Thursday announced that it has joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), forming a new alliance in Rajasthan a week before the Lok Sabha polls.

With this alliance, the BJP will contest on 24 Lok Sabha seats out of a total 25.

Rahul Gandhi's decision to contest from Wayanad in Kerala is 'insult', 'betrayal' of people of Amethi, BJP leader Smriti Irani said on Wednesday.

The Congress on Wednesday announced a list of six more candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat.

Parthibhai Bhatol has been selected for the Banaskantha seat, Rajendra Thakor for Sabarkantha and Paresh Dhanani for Amreli. Manhar Patel has been selected for the Bhavnagar constituency while Bimal Shah has been chosen for the Kheda seat.

A delegation of the opposition BJP Wednesday staged a dharna in front of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's residence demanding early acceptance of the resignation of its candidate Dr Budhan Murmu.

Murmu who had resigned under the voluntary retirement scheme was fielded by the BJP as its candidate for the Saraskana assembly segment in Mayurbhanj district.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who is contesting from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala in addition to his traditional stronghold of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, will file his nomination around 11.30 am on Thursday.
