The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing in the case concerning the anti-CAA protest in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh area for March 23 and said the bench will examine the report submitted by its mediators in the meantime.
A two-judge bench comprising SK Kaul and KM Joseph was hearing the petitions seeking the removal of protesters from Shaheen Bagh, where a huge demonstration against the newly amended citizenship law and proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC) has been on for over two months now.
The top court also refused to issue an interim order, saying the environment was not conducive for any such thing right now. "Let things cool down," Justice Kaul said.

On Monday, senior lawyers Sanjay Hegde and Sadhna Ramachandran submitted their report to the top court after days of mediation talks with the protesters, most of them women, at Shaheen Bagh.
The apex court had appointed Hegde and Ramachandran as mediators to convince the Shaheen Bagh demonstrators to shift their protest to another site and vacate the Kalindi Kunj road.
The petition seeks appropriate direction to the respondents, including the Centre, for laying down "detailed, comprehensive and exhaustive guidelines relating to outright restrictions for holding protest/agitation" leading to obstruction of the public space.
