A group of BJP workers raised the controversial 'Goli maro...' slogan on Sunday en route to the venue of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's rally in Kolkata, PTI news agency reported.

Shah addressed a rally in Kolkata where he launched the BJP's 'Aar Noi Annay' (no more injustice) campaign for West Bengal and reasserted the Centre's position on continuing with the Citizenship Amendment Act in the face of nationwide protests.

The group, carrying party flags, were heard shouting the slogan en route to the Shahid Minar ground.

When contacted, a senior officer of the Kolkata Police declined to comment anything on the incident, but said that "strict action will be taken against anybody trying to disrupt the law and order situation in the city".

The incident comes a day after a small group of supporters of the CAA was detained by the police on Saturday in Delhi after they raised the "Goli maaro..." slogan inside the train and outside on the metro station at Rajiv Chowk.

The BJP has drawn flak since Delhi Assembly Elections for use of the slogan at the party's meetings and rallies during poll campaign.

Junior Union minister Anurag Thakur was heard egging a crowd to chant the slogan that translates as "shoot the traitors of the nation."

The Election Commission imposed a campaign on Thakur following the incident.
