A Delhi court on Thursday extended the judicial custody of former finance minister P. Chidambaram -- lodged in Tihar jail on money laundering charges in the INX Media corruption case -- by two weeks to October 17.

Chidambaram was produced before the before Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar on the expiry of his custody on Thursday.

Citing health concerns, the former finance minister had also requested the court allow him home-cooked food.

Later, the court allowed him the same but only once in a day clarifying that this relaxation should not be treated as a precedent for other accused lodged in jails.

Earlier, Chidambaram moved the Supreme Court seeking bail in the INX Media corruption case but was told by the bench that Cheif Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi will decide on the hearing of his bail petition.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Chidambaram, mentioned the matter for urgent listing before a bench headed by Justice N V Ramana which also comprised of justices Sanjiv Khanna and Krishna Murari.

The bench said that Chidambaram's plea would be sent to Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi for taking a call on the listing of the matter.

The CBI had registered an FIR on May 15, 2017, alleging irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance granted to the INX Media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during Chidambaram's tenure as the finance minister.
